    Miter & Angle Calculator

Miter saw settings for polygons, arbitrary corners, and segmented work.

    Miter saw angle (each end)30°
    Cut angle from board edge60°
    Interior corner angle120°
    Exterior angle60°

Each piece gets the miter saw angle on both ends. Two pieces join to form the interior corner.

    Common settings:

    • 4 sides (square frame): 45° miter
    • 6 sides (hexagon): 30° miter
    • 8 sides (octagon): 22.5° miter
    • 12 sides (clock/segmented bowl): 15° miter

A six-sided frame needs 30° miters, an eight-segment bowl ring 22.5° — and a "square" room corner is rarely 90°. Enter the segment count or the measured corner angle and get the exact miter (and bevel, for compound cuts) to set on the saw.

    Frequently asked questions

What angle do I cut for a hexagon frame?

Each miter is 360° ÷ (2 × 6) = 30°. In general, divide 360 by twice the number of sides.

How do I miter a corner that isn't square?

Measure the actual corner with a protractor or bevel gauge and cut each piece at half that angle — two 44° miters close a 88° corner cleanly.
